New Mexico Wooters Buying The Hanna Montana Digital Music Player

Right now, there is a woot-off on woot.com and the current product is a Hanna Montana branded 1GB Disney Mix Stick MP3 Player. What caught my attention was the woots by state chart, which shows New Mexico in the “lots of wooters wooting” side of green, opposed to the “zero wooters wooting” black side of the chart. Why are New Mexicans buying this Hanna Montana digital music player more than the rest of the country?

My New House

Wow, things happen quickly. I didn’t write about this last week because I really didn’t expect it to go through. I made an offer on a house, about $10K under listed price. This house was a repo and needs some work (not as bad as the others I’ve seen thought). It was a multiple offer situation and I though for sure I wouldn’t come close since people have been paying list price.

I was surprised when I was informed early this week that I had the high offer, but they wanted to get another $5k out of me. No way was I giving them any more, I though my current offer was generous. To make a long story short, I signed the contracts yesterday. It’s mine!

Front of houseThis house is located in the same neighborhood that the other house I made an offer was on. It’s on a 1/2 acre, a nice rectangular 1/2 acre with easy access to be the back yard on both side. The interior needs carpet, paint and is a little dated (was built in the late 70s as far as I can tell), but other than that it’s not in that bad of shape. It also has city water and sewer. Many of the house in this area of Rio Rancho were built before there were hooks and have septic systems or wells. I lucked out there as well.

Over all I’m happy with this purchase so far, I got a deal and it has the basic configuration I was looking for. I have some big plans to add on and will be writing about them here.

Biosphere 2: Now It Can Be Yours

Biosphere 2, that lovable Earth environment within Earth environment is for sale. Bioshphere 2 is located in Oracle, Arizona. How much? Well they don’t seem to be saying. But it cost the current developer 200 million dollars to get it to where it is now so, uh, you will need a few million.

If you don’t recall, the whole idea in the Biosphere was to encapulate humans in a earth like bubble and see if the could manage the production of food, water and oxygen like one might do on mars or other inhospitable planet. That didn’t work out too well and they had to get help from “the outside”. Some saw that as a utter and complete failure, some saw it as a learning experience. I agree with the former. They did this 3 times.

I would also like to note that it’s annoying that their website resized the browser to full screen for no apparent reason.

Take My Trading Post, Please!

The Chambers Trading Post, located along what use to be Route 66, about 50 miles from Holbrook is for sale. But it looks like they are having a hard time giving the property away.

For months, the couple have been buying ads in newspapers and promoting an unusual property transaction via the Internet: Send $100 and an essay of less than 100 words about why you want a trading post, and the best essay claims the prize. The Konheisers have received extensive publicity in newspapers in the Four Corners area.

They were hoping for 20,000 entries. They have received 12. The current owner has cancer and wants to retire, at this point he’s more interested in the retirement part than the “trying to make a buck” part.

I’ve probably passed the place a hundred times but don’t recall anything interesting about it. A little Googling will show it has some interesting history. But I wonder how much money is to be made out there?
